What is TestCEFR?+
TestCEFR is an English proficiency testing platform. Take a free Quick Scan (12–15 adaptive questions on grammar, vocabulary, and reading, ~3–4 minutes) for an estimated CEFR level, or a full assessment covering reading, writing, listening, speaking, grammar, and vocabulary. Optional QR-verified CEFR certificates start at $9.99.
Who is TestCEFR for?+
TestCEFR is designed for anyone who needs a reliable English proficiency assessment: university applicants, working professionals, immigration candidates, language learners tracking their progress, and employers evaluating candidates. Our assessments are suitable for all levels from complete beginners (A1) to advanced speakers (C2).
How accurate is the scoring?+
The free Quick Scan uses adaptive multiple-choice scoring to estimate your CEFR level. The full assessment evaluates multiple dimensions of language ability including grammatical accuracy, lexical range, coherence, and task completion. Results map to the CEFR scale (A1–C2). We continuously refine scoring based on assessment data and user feedback.
Is TestCEFR recognized by employers and universities?+
TestCEFR certificates are aligned with the CEFR framework, which is recognized by thousands of employers, universities, and government agencies worldwide. Recognition policies vary by institution. A TestCEFR certificate is QR-verifiable CEFR evidence — it is not a substitute for official IELTS, TOEFL, or visa-required exams unless the receiving organization accepts it.
Assessment
What skills does the full assessment cover?+
The full TestCEFR assessment evaluates six core English skills: Reading Comprehension, Writing, Listening Comprehension, Speaking, Grammar, and Vocabulary. Each skill is scored separately along with an overall CEFR level.
How long does the full assessment take?+
The complete assessment typically takes 25–45 minutes depending on your pace. The free Quick Scan takes about 3–4 minutes with 12–15 adaptive questions covering grammar, vocabulary, and reading, and provides an estimated CEFR level.
Can I retake the assessment?+
Yes, you can retake assessments. Each attempt draws from our item bank. Full assessment attempts require purchase or an active subscription.
What devices and browsers are supported?+
TestCEFR works on Chrome, Firefox, Safari, and Edge — on desktop, tablet, or mobile. A microphone is required for the speaking section of the full assessment.
Is there a time limit for each section?+
Yes, each full-assessment section has a recommended time limit. Answers are saved if time runs out. The free Quick Scan is untimed.
Certificates
How do I receive my CEFR certificate?+
After completing the full assessment, you can view scores and download a digital CEFR certificate as a PDF. It includes your name, overall CEFR level, skill scores, a unique verification code / QR, and the assessment date.
Can employers verify my certificate?+
Yes. Every TestCEFR certificate includes a unique verification code and QR code. Anyone can verify authenticity on our verification page.
Does the certificate expire?+
TestCEFR certificates do not have a formal expiration date. Some institutions may require a recent assessment (often within 2 years).

How much does a CEFR test cost?+
The free Quick Scan gives an estimated CEFR level in ~3–4 minutes at no cost. The full 6-skill assessment with optional QR-verified certificate starts at $9.99. Subscription plans are also available.
Is there a free option?+
Yes — the free Quick Scan takes about 3–4 minutes, includes 12–15 adaptive questions (grammar, vocabulary, reading), and requires no account or credit card.
What payment methods do you accept?+
We accept payments through PayPal (cards and PayPal balance in most countries). Card details are not stored on our servers.
Can I get a refund?+

What happens if I lose my internet connection during the test?+
Progress is saved as you go. Reconnect and refresh to resume. Contact support@testcefr.com if issues persist.
Is my data secure?+
Yes. Traffic uses HTTPS/TLS. We do not sell your data. Payments are processed by PayPal. See our Privacy Policy.
Can I use TestCEFR on my phone?+
Yes. For writing and speaking sections of the full assessment, a laptop or desktop with a keyboard and microphone is recommended.
